To my knowledge, this is the only beach along the ocean side of Fire Island that allows dogs in the summer time. They are not allowed on the main, guarded beach, but are allowed on the Outer Beach, behind the campground. The beach goes on for miles. This section of beach is also used by permitted four wheel drive vehicles. Basically, the vehicles are parked, and the owners set up sites along the beach, usually with umbrellas and tents, and basically tailgate all day by the beach! This a very busy beach! There were loads of people, may of which brought their dogs. We walked about two miles out before turning around, but there were still tents set up as far as the eye can see.
