This is one of a few recreation areas off Route 6 in Bourne, along the main land side of the Cape Cod Canal. We weren't planning on going to the Cape (though it's something I want to do with the dogs eventually), but the GPS routed us this way on our way to Plymouth. Since we were here, I decided to stop and take a few pictures. One from the bike trail along side the canal, and the other from the picnic area.

This is a glorified rest area that we stopped at since Ellisville Harbor State Park doesn't have any amenities. Besides the nice clean bathroom with running water, there's an open field, picnic areas, a pavilion and a volley ball court here.

This is yet another recreation area along side the Cape Cod Canal. This one is on the south (island) side of the canal and offers great views of the historic Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge. The bridge is a vertical lift bridge, with the main span dropping down when a train needs to cross the canal. There were may people out and about on lawn chairs, just relaxing near the canal. The Cape Cod Canal Bikeway can be accessed from here.

This is the bike way that runs along both sides of the canal. We covered about a half mile stretch starting from Tidal Flats Recreation Area (a mile out and back). It was late and we had already done a lot of walking, so this was about we could handle.
