Unlike other nearby communities, dogs are allowed on the boardwalk in Asbury Park in the off-season, from September 15th through May 15th. While the small food stands were closed, most of the restaurants and shops that line the boardwalk were open, even on a Monday in November. The casino building on the south end of the boardwalk, near the border of Ocean Grove Beach is closed for safety purposes, but we walked the rest of the boardwalk. The boardwalk passes through the inside of the conference center, and there are additional shops inside the building. At the very north end of the boardwalk, is the entrance to the Asbury Park Dog Beach. This was a fun walk, and a nice change from our standard beach pictures.

Despite being a "dog beach", dogs are only allowed on this beach in the mornings and evenings in the summer months, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 AM, May 16th through September 14th. Outside of those days, dogs are allowed at any time, and they can be off-leash during the times that they are permitted on the beach. Obviously, it was off-season during our visit (even though it was a gorgeous 72 degrees). Dogs are never allowed on the rest of the Asbury Park beach, they are only ever allowed on the "dog beach". That being said, I'm not sure exactly how far the dog beach extends. There were dogs present on the entire section north of the conference hall. It was a good day to be on the beach, and probably the last real "beach day" of the season (we actually visit beaches year round, but I'm talking about days where I can walk barefoot at the edge of the waves in shorts and a T-shirt). Mandy and Lexi met some dogs, but they didn't really run around and play today. We also just sat down in the sand and chilled for a while, enjoying the last of the great weather, before returning to the boardwalk, and completing our four mile walk around Asbury Park.

This is a very small park near the Asbury Park Boardwalk that features a statue of James Bradley.
